Genomic Embryo Screening

Gender Selection & Family Balancing in Colombia

Through Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A), our genetics laboratory determines with 99.9% accuracy whether an embryo has female (XX) or male (XY) sex chromosomes, while simultaneously confirming that all 23 pairs of chromosomes are healthy and euploid.

How is Gender Selection Performed?

Gender selection is performed as an integral part of an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle with PGT-A. On Day 5 or 6 of embryo development, a safe biopsy of 4 to 6 cells is taken from the trophectoderm (the outer layer that later forms the placenta, leaving the inner cell mass untouched). The DNA is sequenced using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to reveal chromosomal health and gender.
